HANDOVER SORTED - 1 year and 1 day!

Day 274 - Blogging again

(Thu 28-07)

Out of hospital yesterday after spending 7 days there. I am hoping to get up to the house tomorrow and hobble around there on crutches.

Thanks for your emails and support whilst I have been injured and in hospital.

Builder has been really understanding regarding my injury & post-op complications. I am hoping to meet him there tomorrow also.

From what my wife and others have informed me, the kitchen and all vanities and cabinetry has been installed, but not the stone benchtops. Apparently they have also levelled off soil out back.

Photos to come hopefully soon. Thanks for your patience.

Day 265 - Another ambulance ride!

(Tue 19/07)

Had bad pain in my calf and leg post-op, including shortness of breath. Surgeon ordered me to get an ultrasound immediately, which came up positive for DVT in my leg, this then triggers a CT-PE scan, which came up positive for pulmonary embolism (blood clotting in lungs)
Code 1 Ambulance picked me up from imaging place and here I find myself at Epworth Eastern and here I shall remain to early next week.

I now have three goals I want to achieve before my 40th in September.
1. To walk unaided
2. To return to work
3. Move into our new home...of course!

More on the progress of the house next week.

Day 261 - Post op....house?

(Fri 15-07)
Had my knee surgery and am now recovering at home bored out of my brains and drugged up with pain meds. Thank God my ipad2 got delivered on Monday, just in time.
Regarding my knee, even though the timing couldn't be worse, strangely I feel relaxed about the whole house thing. I have hardly thought about it at all. I'm sure the builder is enjoying the break from my frequent input and just getting on with the task at hand.

Day 258 - Staircase in

(Tue 12-07)

Builder called to check in and let me know that stairs were installed yesterday, so I just had to hobble up and take a look. Painters were there also. Looks good. Sparky has got the position of a couple of my LED stair lights wrong though, only the holes drilled so far. Emailed Builder already on that one.
Builder also emailed later today to say that the Kitchen and Vanities will be installed this week, some other carpentry work and the levelling out of the soil out back done this week also.
Next week, the Termiguard Part B (reticulation) will be done and in 2 weeks, the Garage Doors installed. In the mean time, the tilers will start.
All happening now. I intend to make payment next week for the 'Fixing Stage'.

I will not be visiting the site again this week, as my surgery is scheduled for Thursday 14/07

Day 253 - Knee Day!

(Thu 07-07-11)

Dad came up from the country to do the last 8 remaining cutouts upstairs. I hobbled on to the site and remained there, bored out of my brains in the garage, freezing I might add.
The painters were there finishing up their preparations for the spray tomorrow.
Looks like the sparky has done his cutouts this week sometime, but the heating/cooling cutouts ahave not been done yet. Hope they don't spray over their floor marking locations.

I visited my ortho specialist today. I have a bad tear in my knee cartilage (lateral menisci tear) he will try to repair it when I undergosurgery next Thurs -  Fingers crossed.
I will be unable to perform full duties at work for at least 3-4 months, nor will I be able to do any major works at the house post handover for a while.

Builder chased me up for the 25% 'Fixing Stage' payment. I explained the reasons why I was reluctant to pay at this stage. After a few heated exchanges, we came to an agreement that we would discuss it later next week after more work was done. I guess we'll see on that one.
In high insight, I should have let him know my intentions when I got the bill initially. A wonderful thing, high insight isn't it.

Day 249 - Major setback!

(Sun 03-07-2011)

After nearly completing my cutouts for the data/tv/phone/conduit points today, I have sustained a bad RH knee injury.
I can't walk, nor drive a car and have have since been told by my specialist that I will most probably have to have surgery later this week or early next week.

I am in pain, it's school holidays, I'm bored (let alone the kids!) and most importantly, I can't do a thing on the house, nor will I be able to for some time even when we finally get the keys :(

My wife and mother-in-law have been brilliant, couldn't do without them. I am even finding that my son is happy to help me when asked.

As for the house, I will have to get my Dad to finish the cutouts this week and keep a close eye on the build progress with my wife also.
