HANDOVER SORTED - 1 year and 1 day!

Day 274 - Blogging again

(Thu 28-07)

Out of hospital yesterday after spending 7 days there. I am hoping to get up to the house tomorrow and hobble around there on crutches.

Thanks for your emails and support whilst I have been injured and in hospital.

Builder has been really understanding regarding my injury & post-op complications. I am hoping to meet him there tomorrow also.

From what my wife and others have informed me, the kitchen and all vanities and cabinetry has been installed, but not the stone benchtops. Apparently they have also levelled off soil out back.

Photos to come hopefully soon. Thanks for your patience.

  1. Hi, thanks for your blog. Your house is coming along great! Did you have any problems with the dimensions of the stairs? We're building the 'overkill' 360E deluxe, which is perfect for our 3 generation family. Hope you feel better soon and look forward to more pics.

  2. Hi Alice. Thanks for your comments. Great to receive feedback on the blog and I hope you find the content helpful.
Stairs on ours are narrower than on the 360 Deluxe by about 150mm. Went up ours today (under strict supervision given my condition) and the width seems to be ok. Couldn't take any pics today as builder hovering about.
All the best with your build and I hope you decide to blog it too.

  3. Hi Andrew, although to date I have 1,144 photos, I have neither the time or patience to blog.(What I really mean is I'm useless when it comes to computers!) Our stairs were put in but the set out was different to the display. They set them further back, placed 8 steps, landing then eight again. Display is 9 landing then 7. The landing is only 900mm deep, the display is 1070mm. Because of the difference, furniture will have to be lifted over the bannister to get it upstairs, you have to get on all fours to access the storage area under the stairs and because they set it 400mmfurther back it looks as though they're trying to hide the staircase instead of it being a feature. I was just wondering about the depth of your landing. National say the display home staircase is an upgrade but have no proof to back this up. We paid over 20k in upgrades so if it were an upgrade we wouldn't have scrimped on that! Cheers and take care. Alice

  4. Hi Alice, I will do some measurements when I am next there for you. At no time were we told that there was such thing as a staircase upgrade, apart from if you wanted stained timber. I was aware that there was the width difference of the staircase between the 360 Deluxe and the 320E due to the layout difference upstairs. Sounds like they are feeding you a heap of lies, like they did with us about our kitchen bench - read latest blog!

  5. Hi Andrew, yes I read your latest blog and they would have known you couldn't have a 600 overhang without extra support ages ago. We have taken NBG to the Building Commission re: the staircase but it's still in the early stages, although apparently we have handover in three weeks, so that'll be interesting. I'd appreciate you doing some measurements for me, this is a big issue for us. Why would we have double front doors, wide hallway, wide stairs and a small landing on top of spending $25+K on upgrades? Can only expect an upgrade (if it were) to be no more than $500. Makes no sense.. Cheers. Alice

  6. Sorry Alice. Been away, just back. Sorry to hear of your problems with NBG. I must say, we have had ours too. To answer your question, our stairs are 840mm wide. 7 steps up to 1 platform then 7 steps up to top. See latest blog update for photos.
Cheers. Good luck with Building Commission.

  7. Thanks for that. Your house is coming along great. You seem to have your finger on the pulse of everything. Ours is nearly finished and we have regretted some of our choices, but too late now. All that needs doing on ours is carpet, site clean and the driveway, which we're hoping for a miracle as we need to be out of our current house by the 22nd of August. NBG offered us a laughable sum of $500 compensation for the staircase debacle (but won't admit guilt) Rock on VCAT!
    Cheers. Alice.
